My father writes that he took a few days off from work to see to things that need to be arranged. When he came home my mother had laid a lovely birthday table for him. Among many other presents she had arranged all the old as well as recent photos in a beautiful album. My sister seems to settle down in London. My mother likes her work and has made new friends. Some relatives visited them and took my mother to the pictures. My letter arrived in time for my fathers birthday and that brought great joy to them.

Mein Vater schreibt, er hat sich einige Tage frei genommen um sich um dringennde Angelegenheiten zu kümmern. Meiner Mutter gefällt es bei ihrer Arbeit und sie hat schon neue Freunde gewonnen. Sie hat ihm einen schönen Geburttagstisch vorbereitet. Unter anderem ein Photoalbum mit allen Bildern von früher und bis heute. Meine Schwester scheint sich eingelebt zu haben. Verwandte besuchten meine Eltern und nahmen meine Mutter mit zu einem Kino Besuch. Mein Brief kam pünklich zum Geburtstag meines Vater’s an, damit freute er sich sehr.

ליום ההולדת של אבא הכנתי עבורו בין היתר, אלבום תמונות, מן העבר הרחוק ועד היום כל התמונות של כל המשפחה. הוא ממשיך לעבוד בעבודות חפירה וכביש בכל תנאי מזג אויר וחוזר רק בסופי השבוע.

כדי לשמח את לבי, הוא צחצח את כל חלקי הנחושת שבבית.

עם פרוץ המלחמה ב-1 בספטמבר 1939 ההורים שלחו את המכתבים לפורטוגל, שם גרה הסבתא ודודי אמיל אופנהיים. הם העבירו את המכתבים למעטפה חדשה ושלחו אותם אלי לאנגליה .

כך הצלחנו לשמור על קשר הדוק במשך שלוש וחצי שנים. דבר נדיר בהחלט.
